Re: Using the Falcon's expansion connector

Buffee and PiSTorm (as I mentioned) both have 16 bit data 24-bit address external buses which make them perfect for the Atari Falcon expansion connector. Internally they can be full 32-bit and can have 68000, 020 or 030 stack frames. The bits that have to change for the Falcon is the address map (Fa...

Re: Copyright for SNDH Music? Would this bother anyone?

Lots of musicians have been creating commercial remix albums for video game sountracks that originally were not their own. They must have sought permission from the original artist and/or from the companies who employed the original artists. People like the incredible Matt Gray who is now on his fou...

Re: Copyright for SNDH Music? Would this bother anyone?

Yes there is copyright law covering SNDH tracks (and other music formats) Timbaland stole a full song originally composed by Janne Suni called "AcidJazzed Evening" and turned it into the hit "Do It" by Nelly Furtado. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4KX7SkDe4Q Timbaland claimed for many years that "...

Atari ST mascot characters?

Nintendo has Mario (and friends), Zelda, Samus, M$ has Master Chief (from Halo), Sony PS has Astro Bot, Sega has Sonic What does/did the Atari ST have? Atari (at least the Arcades) had a lot of exclusive characters (PacMan, Space Invaders) but they don't particularly remind ME of the Atari ST. Anyon...

Re: New STe demo: The Star Wars demo by The Arctic Land

Thanks for the product. I enjoyed reading about the techniques it used as much as watching the video of it.

I am a little sad that I will never see it on the MegaSTe or Falcon030 but it is the price you pay for cutting edge code which punishes the hardware.

Re: Using the Falcon's expansion connector

Very interesting work. Well done. I wonder why you keep blowing up CPLDs/FPGAs? Wrong voltages on some pins? Any chance of releasing the physical data for the PCB? Not so much to make clones but you've measured everything and got everything to fit and that could be very useful. I've been considering...

Might be interesting to bring the PiSTorm to the Falcon. Currently it only has a 16-bit external bus, but is that the same as the Falcon accelerator slot?

Re: Why no SuperVidel

I don't think the design was open-sourced? It is not like just anyone can make more? I wanted a SuperVidel to go with my CT60e and I expressed interest, but I am not sure I would have bought, the original batch cost a lot of money each. Very few Falcon060 owners use them regularly enough to justify ...

The DSP RTL would be amazing. Not only for MiSTer but also for the FireBee which has an FPGA for the DSP but I believe the last version still was a long way from complete

Correct. They let you connect any M.2 SSD to any IDE-capable retro computer.
Any SATA M.2 They don’t work with PCIe NVMe or AHCI SSD

Re: PCI for the Atari range

Funny, yesterday I was daydreaming about not about PCI but PCIe (root idea : ssd). Probably easier to buy an IDE<->M.2 adapter, they cost next to nothing. They are not PCIe bridges are they? I thought they were the old PATA (IDE) to SATA bridges from 20 years ago in a new form factor (M.2 SATA)

Re: PCI for the Atari range

The developer doesn't want anyone cashing in on his design. If anyone is going to sell these for a profit he wants a cut and that's understandable He's already shown a picture of one plugged into a DIL 68000 STfm. I imagine it will just take one ST hardware hacker to approach him, offer to help debu...

Re: What does it say about a Falcon if BadMooD hangs at startup?

I couldn't get BadMood to work on my NTSC Falcon which I *think* had a bus accelerator. The 030->DSP timings are different and BadMood didn't like it. But it was a LONG time ago I tried it. (Worked on my PAL Falcon without a bus accelerator)

Re: PCI for the Atari range

The developer is very approachable and PiSTorm is already a collaboration with about 3 people. The RTG (that's the AmigaOS GFX API) driver and corresponding RPi side software is being done by someone else. The HW design I *believe* is relatively simple. You could probably guess it or reverse enginee...

Re: PCI for the Atari range

Heh,,that sounds interesting since have been thinking in about those lines but more like twin systems..That is using the Rpi for online and such dirty work and keeping the ST intact as such. There is already a project like this for the Amiga which connects to the 68000 bus called the A314 https://g...

Re: PCI for the Atari range

The most interesting solution in the works at the moment has to be PiSTorm. It is a Raspberry Pi with a special hardware bridge that plugs into the 68000 socket and runs a specially modified version of Mushashi (low-level 68000 software emulator). All the Raspberry Pi's ARM peripherals are made avai...

Re: PCI for the Atari range

Man I'm gonna tune out of this thread, you're in silly territory now. Speed that the ST can access RAM: 4mb/sec Speed of USB3: 5Gbps (5 gigabytes) / (4 megabytes) = 1250 So you think putting a bus that is 1250x faster than the machine itself on an ST is a good idea in any way? Hi, you're out by a f...

Re: Atari Santa? What’s your wish?

I dunno about vampire-esq but the PiStorm 68000 is coming to DIL based 68000 Atari motherboards including ST(fm) and Exxos H series remakes. Speed is close to 040@25MHz. Ethernet, Wifi, Mass Storage, USB Mouse & Keyboard plus the possibility of NVDI acceleration of 2D drawing. Worth supporting if yo...

Bin the HDD it will be broken. Buy a 44 pin IDE to SD card adapter or IDE to CF card adapter and use one of those instead.

You can use a tool by Pera Putnik to read and write to Atari TOS formatted disks in Windows or use another tool to use PC format on the falcon.

If the IDE HDD is broken the FDD doesn't work. Disconnect the HDD to try the FDD
