Re: Is there a way to connect Hatari to Jack?

You probably need to enable PortMidi support in Hatari for that (but PortMidi is a bit buggy, it fails with some MIDI programs, unlike the direct MIDI device file access). As for the sound part, whether that uses Jack, depends on your SDL library. PS. Isn't PipeWire nowadays the thing to use instead...

Re: hatari and midi

If I remember right, PortMidi support isn't enabled on Hatari Linux packages. It's only enabled for pre-built Mac & Windows binaries, because that's the only option that works on them.

See Hatari documentation: https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/doc/midi-linux.txt

(Note that PortMidi support is buggy and limits MIDI port usage strictly to MIDI, so raw MIDI access is preferred.)

Re: Devpac debugging tutorial

A Steem debug profiler does exist. However it was never released publicly. It is really useful though. What kind of features / data it provides? Does that also provide call backtraces like Hatari one does? (Major feature of Hatari profiler is tracking called symbols and accumulating costs up the ca...

Hatari debugger provides some functionality that's not available anywhere else. With profiling enabled: Code execution is automatically timed and on 68000 timing information is cycle-exact. One sees number of passed cycles whenever dropping to debugger If the loaded program includes symbol informati...

Re: HELP key on a Mac?

Note that Hatari's internally emulated clock can drift from host clock, and it definitely will, if fast-forwarded is used or machine isn't powerful enough to run (e.g. Falcon emulation) at full speed. This is because after startup, Hatari can't anymore sync clock to host as that could mess up with A...

Re: Strange Caps Lock behaviour in Hatari 2.3!

Well it doesn't require any special skills. Just take copy of working & broken versions and then replace the library files in the broken version with ones from the working version one-by-one (or vice verse), and test Hatari after each change until you find library causing issue (some combos may not ...

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

If you want help with the breakpoint chaining / automation after you have symbol/address file for the game, just ask! Note that debugger script could first load the address/symbols file and loadbin commands could then use symbol names for the load addresses instead of hex values. (Most Hatari comman...

Re: Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge - STE enhanced (WIP)

Note that Hatari debugger can be scripted. You can put the loadbin commands to a file and run that from debugger. Loading that script could even be made automatic using chained breakpoints (first set a breakpoint to some event that after TOS provides basepage info, like loading of TOS INF file, then...

Then try starting hatari with hatari --ide-master falcon.img If all goes well, this should come up with your newly copied disk image just as your Falcon did before. I had it enabled. But, TBH, I am not sure how Hatari VDI works and what it does. Hatari VDI mode just: * Reserves larger memory area for screen from ST-RAM and sets TOS memory top variable accordingly * Sets some TOS line-A & VDI variables so that TOS and (GEM) applications handle larger screen cor...

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

There's a problem if one does unpacking on some other operating system because their rules for clipping file names are different than with TOS (especially with VFAT, but also with FAT directory entries). Because of that, Hatari includes "atari-convert-dir" script, which is used by "atari-hd-image" s...

I have GDOS & dynamic mouse options disabled from NVDICONF, but I don't know whether they matter. In any case I recommend using EmuTOS. It boots faster than normal TOS and is nowadays at feature parity with older TOS versions (only some Falcon / TOS v4.x functionality is missing). While latest Hatari ships 512k version of EmuTOS v1.0, you can find other versions from here: https://emutos.sourcef...

Re: Problems launching .PRG with --auto switch

"--auto" option will transparently add the application to TOS INF file contents when INF file is read for the first time on boot, so that TOS will start the given program automatically at boot. I.e. you should see the same issue also if you install your application as start-at-boot app from the TOS ...

It actually seems that windows cannot be moved past the left edge in TOS, so the only alternatives are either: * switching to med-rez from TOS (or to mono monitor from Hatari options) to get resolution with more pixels in horizontal direction, or * removing the DESKTOP.INF file [1] at HD root di...
