I think the hardware gurus will tell if it is possible. If PiSTorm made it to Falcon/TT/ST series it would be absolutely wonderful.

I would sure like to see a fresh batch of Falcon accelerators with a graphics "card" solution if possible, the more plug and play the better.

Re: BeePi 1.1.b
Note: was wondering if this wonderful desktop and the whole setup could be used in real hardware and what would be needed to run it. Yes, but you almost have to rebuild all the system by hand. I did it on my falcon. With the firebee it’s even more complicated as disk D will become corrupted with ti...

Re: Atari Falcon rare pilot production model with serial 31 and white keyboard
This is what I was thinking. Falcon had fixes even after CLab took production over, let alone a Falcon from the first batch. But it makes a good collector's item, I would think (although I'd prefer to get a MK-X or MK-II instead).

Re: PCI for the Atari range
Took sometime reading the thread the ideas, the expansion drivers etc. I also took a good read on Exxos about the CPU direct bus sockets. I guess the sweet spot for maximum performance is to find a way to connect directly on the CPU bus, like the Amiga does with their expansion ports. There are mode...

WTB - Falcon QWERTY (US preferred) Keyboard
As the subject says, I have a Falcon with German keyboard which is ok but since I am using English and US keyboard map, I prefer to match the map with the keyboard.

Re: Can you decipher this Falcon accelerator?
I did some benchmark tests on it: tempImageCNxbd5.gif tempImagemDDSin.gif Looks good if you see the resolution and colour depth. Blitter shows disabled though even at plain 16Mhz. Does that board disable blitter? Does anyone know if this accelerator disables the blitter? I couldn’t find any info in...

Re: Can you decipher this Falcon accelerator?
Looking at the image on the first post, it looks green. Probably there are shadows that make it look black. I will re-open it soon to install some heat sinks and take another look but IIRC it is green.

Re: PCI for the Atari range
The most interesting solution in the works at the moment has to be PiSTorm. It is a Raspberry Pi with a special hardware bridge that plugs into the 68000 socket and runs a specially modified version of Mushashi (low-level 68000 software emulator). All the Raspberry Pi's ARM peripherals are made ava...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
Alan's got a point - name one PCI hardware which is badly needed and not already available in some form. PCI is badly outdated today, so that means usage of obsolete PC hardware anyway. You can say "but it's cheap!" but look at ATI Mach32/64 series - they are also supposed to be cheap. ;) (so the g...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
Connectivity is important of course, but then again there’s the driver issue. I thought a PCI bridge was really important 10 years ago, but today I’d frankly prefer a solution such as the pistorm. (And I have most PCI solutions available to the platform already, frankly they’re not that useful in p...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
Sorry for reacting like that, I just wish we could have realistic expectations as it undermines what you actually wanted to convey. Which is good spirited. By the way czietz is probably one of the last people in our entire community that actually can write drivers, so saying 'it'll be on the commun...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
But what about USB 2.0 or even 3 and wifi for instance? Fast Ethernet? You can even have CPU expansion boards on PCI. These are just ideas/thoughts on top of my head. Also, fast modern storage, CPU overhead sharing with dedicated devices etc. Man I'm gonna tune out of this thread, you're in silly t...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
This is totally understood. This is why I spoke about TOS extensions above for the basic functionality and then drivers for the device will come from the manufacturer. I don't think the manufacturer of a PCI card will develop a driver for TOS, though... Well, this part will be on the community Agai...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
You've got to ask yourself a question of why you need PCI ? Is it just graphics for a bigger TOS screen ? Is there anything you require for the Atari that's now not available via USB ? Sure, maybe drivers haven't been written, but they could be. PCI opens the gates to much more hardware selection a...

Re: PCI for the Atari range
Aside from the effort and costs (that people tend to massively underestimate) involved in the design of, say, a PCI bridge for the Atari, please don't forget that this will be of no use unless hardware drivers are developed, too. As someone involved in the design of the Lightning ST / VME and in th...
