Re: Partially defective CPU?
Certainly looks as if the CPU is defective. Toshiba were a second source manufacturer of the 68k and I guess that's week 33 of 1988 (8833) so that fits, so it's an original part. It is not an HC variant as it would be labelled TMP68HC000. The 68000 starts reading from $000000. The first four bytes (...

Re: Partially defective CPU?
Interesting. Just wondering if the Toshiba CPU was a factory fitting. Is it an HC low-power variant?
If so, does that require pullup resistors and is it possible that one or more of those resistors is defective?

Horrible example of eBay Flipping
This was sold last week for £185.50: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-ST520-Vintage-Computer-boxed-With-loads-of-games-2-joysticks-and-mouse-/266128411629 Very nice. I would have bought it myself if I had the spare cash. I would have liked a Turbo Pack. Then this week under a different account the f...

What make of drive is it? Is it a long button or short button drive?
Cleaning the read/write heads with IPA is the first thing to do.
I've had a (Chinon?) D357 with a similar issue and there is a recap kit available for that one:

Re: [stolen] Atari 520ST first model, stolen during shipping
I recently bought an Atari 520 ST "first model" (or "short model" the one without floppy disk drive). That sucks. The delivery company wasn't Evri (formerly Hermes) by any chance? In Britain Seven held after hundreds of parcels stolen: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manch...

Re: Floppy drive noises
I would check the stability of the PSU for 5V and the condition of the floppy drive cable. Try the floppy drive in another machine if possible. I'm not sure about servicing floppy drives but I guess they are prone to wearing out, capacitors needing replaced and/or general servicing.

I just saw this on eBay and realised it's an updated version of the 8-bit classic 180: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r29Cda2GVs8 It's not as good though because it doesn't have named players, a pub bar or Jammy Jim getting 180 every round in the final. On the Amiga version there is a Paula chip re...

Yes, you are right. It does work on STEEM. STEEM assumes that drive B: is enabled by default and the disk 2 should be in drive B:

Just so it can be copied and pasted the password is: CH7E8WOV7 The 7th letter is the letter O not the number 0 (zero). If you get the password wrong it doesn't give you the chance to type it again and it just loads level 1. I couldn't get the game to load on STEEM or even STEEM SSE 4.0 (Disk Error),...

If you are adding a switch to enable/disable the memory upgrade you must ground the A9 pin and make it open circuit as far as the ST is concerned.
This guide is quite detailed:

Re: Screen filters in Hatari ?
I would not use or advise the use of screen filters in an emulator. It always looks artificial. I prefer to Scale up. Keep the original aspect ratio. Do not blur. Do not add scanlines. I am having major problems with MAME on Pandora's Key 7 arcade emulator because it is configured to use scaling, bl...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
If you have STOS on the machine you can run the attached file.
xmas1.bas - basic loop,
xmas2.bas - screen copy up moving left and right,
xmas3.bas - a bit of a sine wave going.
100% STOS. No extensions required.

Re: Blitz PC720B External floppy driver user manual needed
There is this manual online:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/10479 ... Pc720.html
It includes the PC720 and PC720E but not the PC720B.
It does include the PC880B (Amiga Version) but the switch positions should be the same as the PC720B (Atari Version).

Interesting that the CPU began as huge breadboard Yes. That seems to have been the way to do things back then. I remember the Crash magazine issue where they had the SAM Coupe prototype and its ASIC was designed on a a very large breadboard. It was shrunk down nicely in the final machine! In 1999/2...

Wang: 80s PC Manufacturer with a slightly rude name.
Wang Laboratories invented and patented the SIMM in 1983. Not surprising if Atari wanted to use SIMMS they'd use Wang caps perhaps?
Wang were like the Dell of their day I guess. Except Dell use better caps.

Re: Atari 1040 STE with 33 Bombs and/or white screen T0 and e7 spurious interrupt
Sorry if I am way off here. It looks as if there is no blitter on the motherboard. Is that correct? Has it been removed for cleaning/replacement or socketing? Would TOS boot without it? I can't see clearly if you have a C302183-002/b combined GLUE/Blitter chip. It looks like C300589-001. From a prev...

Re: Number of ataris sold over the years?
The Atari Canada figure of 1.2M in April 1989 must be a low estimate.
If production and sales of ST/STE continued until 1993 then the actual figure must be closer to 2M. I think 3M was quoted in ST Format but they might have been optimistic figures.
