Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

I listed you the contents of my drive image, tell me what I did wrong. NOHOG2.ACC in root, nothing else then the distribution zip unpacked, and GEM=ROM enabled. Other than that my Hatari is about 1 year old but I don't think that would make a difference. *EDIT* Seem the NOHOG2.ACC itself makes a di...

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

Addendum on unpacking the ZIP file:

Procedure for many people probably would be downloading the large ZIP via UIP tool to a harddisk partition und unzip it using STZip or compatible to install on the existing partitions.

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

did you manage to get your GEM=ROM setup up and running? EmuTOS + current MiNT + GEM=ROM leaves roughly 1.7M for applications on a 4M machine (probably a little less with active networking). NOHOG2 still does not work for me. As I didn't attempt this on real hardware yet, there is also no networkin...

Re: FreeMiNT related questions are answered here.

If you tell us where to look.

Last time I attempted to provide patches to Atari related projects, i was ripped to shreds and this is very depressing for a hobby we love..and discourages anyone from attempting any "Use the source"

Can't the ROM GEM process be identified somehow?

Re: VanillaMiNT 2 - need some input

I'd prefer a VanillaMint for 030 und one for 000, individual packages.
I'd love to run a bare setup on a 4MB STE with some RAM to spare for applications (normally 1MB left over is sufficient)

Re: FreeMiNT related questions are answered here.

GEM=ROM Couldn't "see" where the system was stopping before using MiNT 1.19.cur. Installing the latest MiNT package, now can see what the complaint is. This is just a warning - GEM in ROM does a fork here (duplicates itself to start another process) and MiNT recognises the ROM GEM doesn't have a pr...

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

I strongly opt for a Mintnet configuration that will work from TOS formatted drives. Unix stuff should be optional. There exist already such a distribution... That would just be VanillaMint  best for beginners. For those who want to learn to fish, can just go to my "howto install atari mint...

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

In this case we probably need more explanatory articles here?

Networking, USB, XaAES...maybe they all deserve their separate "How to" sections.
I am aware that a lot of information is contained with the releases thesemselves but users have to know where to look for.

Re: What's the difference between various MiNTs?

Tried taking small steps back, then installed Vanilla MiNT 030, I'm still getting a working cursor "bee" and white screen using GEM=ROM/NOHOG.ACC (Is it normal NOT to see nohog active in the drop down menu?) I have been asked that aswell. I tried with EmuTOS and I had no ACC entry in the Desk menu....

Re: How to install FreeMiNT - simple step by step guide

I had to test the simplicity with hatari and EmuTOS, I unzipped the ZIP to my GEMDOS drive and copied the contents from within EmuTOS to the harddisk image. Seems that is not supposed to be working :( Expect users to use this on plain TOS formatted partitions with no frills. *EDIT* And it still seem...

mfro reports it is working for him, debugging efforts are underway. My try was with an install within Hatari btw.

Re: What's the difference between various MiNTs?

Great explanatioN! I personally now opt for a BareMiNT distribution with GEM=ROM default setting. Haven't spent a lot of time troubleshooting why GEM=ROM didn't work here. Commented out the Xaes declaration. I get to a blank screen (white) almost as if it's stalled, or not finding the desktop. As w...

The idea is not to shop and use social networks but simple plain lookup of information, browsing and location of documentation etc.

WIthout having to wait ages for CAB to display crap it cannot render

Re: Bought an USB adapter

I thought, maybe an usb mouse would fit and work with a driver. I am afraid, you will need a Netusbee for that. However that one has a confirmed working USB mouse driver available. *EDIT* If you are only after connecting an USB mouse, maybe something like this would work better: https://www.ebay.de...

Re: WebOne: browsing by proxy

Interesting, I'll probably install on my RasPi here. Definitely an interesting project, but you will need a fast machine to run the proxy on (tested it on my Intel i7 4.00 GHz; RasPi 4 is next). Not everything works, but it's an early version. A lot depends on your browser's CSS implementation. Wel...

Welcome to the forum!

I would think this only provides +5V ports and not full USB functionality.
As a full USB only interface adapter would have been announced here sooner or later.
