Transfer notator disks for use on gotek

Post by mcdoug »

Hi there,

First post so hope I am doing this correctly, I recently fitted a gotek to my 520stfm as the floppy had failed and it seemed a sensible thing to do. I love it, however I now realise I cannot use my notator discs (I own the original discs and a dongle). I am looking for a way to transfer my disks to the gotek, can someone please help? Or is there an easy way to put together an external drive just for using with notator disks? I did use the search tool, if I have missed something or posted in the incorrect location please correct me as to avoid me repeating the error in future.

Many thanks :D

You need an external drive to make MSA images of your disks and then transfer the disks to a PC. Which if you haven't got a PC floppy drive, it becomes a pain. You didn't specify which version of Notator you are running, but if someone has already done the transfer across, then then might be able to post the .ST images into this thread.

Alternatively, this is a cracked copy of Notator 3.0 in .ST format which is what the Gotek is after.

Hi there thank you so much for your quick reply and help!

I knew I should have kept that old pc I had which had a floppy! It got cleared out during last move:( I will have a look out for an external drive to try and do the conversion. I managed to find these copies of the disk online, could I possibly use these as part of the conversion? http://www.notator.org/html/software.html

Alternatively, if anyone has done the conversion I would greatly appreciate it if they wouldn't mind sharing the file.

Apologies I should have said, it is version 3.1 disks I have but I think my dongle should work with earlier versions? Thank you so much for the version you have attached I shall give that one a bash! I don't feel bad using a cracked piece of software if I actually own it legally :) Hopefully this will get me going thank you so much!

The same four disks from the website above, but stored as separate .ST files. Named the same as the .ZIP files from the website too.

(I removed the junk files that a Mac had created in case they tripped the max size for a floppy disk image).

Thank you so much this is incredible! I will fire these up today.:D

Was it a difficult thing to do? Is there somewhere I can look to learn the process so that I can do it myself in the future?

I used Steem. I copied the contents of the ZIPs into four separate folders on my emulated hard-drive. Then created 4 x blank disk images using STeem's disk manager (making sure I used the .ST format). Inserted each disk, copied the files across and rinse and repeat. Then uploaded them here.
