CT60/CT63 will be available soon again

Post by mpattonm »

This is extremely exciting news and I am so thrilled I can share it with you now. Today, I have signed a contract with Rodolphe Czuba granting me exclusive rights to produce his CT60, famous Falcon030 accelerator.
More details about release date, pricing and ordering will be published soon. Stay tuned!

Will it be ct60e or 1:1 old versions? Any chances for firmware fixes for plain ct60 (ABE / SDR / SuperVidel related)?

CT63 with very minor mods and fixes, mainly to fight component obsolescence. In other words, 1:1 with original. Also I have to stress out I have rights for physical HW, Rodolphe keeps VHDL undisclosed. And as far as I can tell, he does not plan to develop it any further.

LC/EC are on eBay for still reasonable money - sort of.
Don't ask me about SV, please.

EC ? - no FPU
LC ? - no FPU, no MMU

ct6x needs MMU to relocate CT6x TOS. A lot of Falcon software, specially games, demos, mp3 needs FPU. Does not make sense to try these chips in a Falcon.

Indeed, a 68060 without an FPU and/or MMU is not an option. It's awesome news that the CT60 is going to be produced again, but considering that it's close to impossible to source a full 68060 CPU today it's going to be hard for new owners to get it up and running. I was actively looking for a second 68060 CPU about a year ago. I eventually got an offer from a reliable source, €400. Insane. I purchased a full 68060 for €80 a couple of years ago.

Strangely enough, I have been running CT60 with LC for a few good years. First CT60 Rodolphe sold were mostly with LC in, as far as I remember.
Also I guess I am just lucky to never come across the tool that failed to launch because of missing FPU, but I have 68882 socketed in, so that may have made a difference.
But yeah, if you have a good source for RC CPUs, let us know!

In 030 mode maybe, but the 060 cannot access an external FPU.

Would a re-implementaion of 68060 in FPGA be a solution in the CPU shortage? This might give a lot more benefits like speed increase etc. Not a hardware expert, just throwing ideas.

What about the 68080 Apollo Core used on the Vampire cards, could that be used as a 68060 replacement?

68080 has an MMU, but different than Motorola one, and it seems it is a better

I wonder if the 68080 internal MMU would be able to catch attempts at using an external 68030 style MMU and redirect that to the proper location, like the old Falcon "compatibility" programs that trapped Atari ST software access in shadow registers?

That's a shame because there is still one quite critical bug for people with CT60 + SV: https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.p ... 58#p408458 ... it has to be fixed in the SDR.
