New case HD (3D printed) for TT and Mega STe.
Hi guys;
Some friends of the group-facebook "Atari TT users" and "Atari Mega STe users" asked me to make the measurements of the case of hard disk, for to create a new one in 3D printers and replace a broken one, or preserve the original and make holes in the new to host a CosmosEx, UltraSatan, USB ports, CF slot, SD ... etc.
The day 26-VII-2018 I started with the sketches and little by little I'm drawing the views with measurements, so that our mate Andrej G. (alias af0l or mujo32) inserts the data in the 3D modeling program and creates the file for the printer.
I hope it is useful to the community.
Greetings from José Antonio, alias "Atarieterno", alias "Luis Ortiz de Sandoval".
P.S. I will update this thread with the new views that I draw.

Very nice, I thought about trying to make one but my printer is too small to print it out so I gave up, the drawing you made looks great.

When you have the final file, easily with a little ingenuity you can take advantage of one of the breathing slots and cut the piece in two halves to facilitate printing on small printers, you just have to design some simple elements of union for the inner side.Wayne123 wrote:Very nice, I thought about trying to make one but my printer is too small to print it out so I gave up, the drawing you made looks great.

What have you used for glue? The super glue I have tried with PLA didn’t work so well, something like this I would likely print with ABS+ because it sands nicely.
I really want to get a nice coreXY printer with a bigger print area someday, my bed has a usable size of about 200mm at most.

Greetings.
Using Facebook is your decision, and a closed group is no impediment: call and open the door, and you're already inside (unless you're someone who is scandalized when you see old advertising where a beautiful girl advertises Atari products).

You can build the piece in two halves and design elements of union for both.

Well, the size is a bit annoying, but it is what it is...

This looks great, is it a good fit or when you say size is annoying, it's not quite right??af0l wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 8:43 pm Well, the size is a bit annoying, but it is what it is...

I would love to have a version of this with slots in the front for 2 SD cards ala the internal Ultrasatan!
Be happy to pay!

Re: New case HD (3D printed) for TT and Mega STe.
Sorry I completely missed this. No, I don't think it's a good fit. But my printer is too small and I had to print it in two parts, some warping happened and it took more than a day to print... I have also neglected the project a bit, since the guy who started the measurements started calling me a communist and an all together bad guy.viking272 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 4:50 pmThis looks great, is it a good fit or when you say size is annoying, it's not quite right??af0l wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 8:43 pm Well, the size is a bit annoying, but it is what it is...

But I have a plan to get back to it sometime, if there is enough interest...

If possible, would still love seeing a 2 slot SD card version! <dreams>

Re: New case HD (3D printed) for TT and Mega STe.
Can anyone recommend a PC program to modify a 3D scanned object?
I've scanned an object that has holes right through it but the scanner has only picked up the start of the holes on each side. Is there a program that can automatically join the holes in opposite sides of the model, or is there an easy way to do that manually in some program? Would a better 3D scanner be able to scan the holes right through (eg. 6m hole straight through a 25mm thick object) or is it typical that you have to edit details like that manually after scanning?
Thanks.

Re: New case HD (3D printed) for TT and Mega STe.
I've used OpenSCAD (https://openscad.org/) to modify this object for my needs (see https://forum.atari-home.de/index.php/t ... #msg257331). This as simple as kids building blocks.
On the other side of the screen, it all looks so easy.
Re: New case HD (3D printed) for TT and Mega STe.
Oh, thanks... I tried that but it doesn't seem to allow loading an STL file? It can export to STL but I can't see a load/import STL option. Or am I missing something, as it looked from the thread you linked that you were loading an STL?RealLarry wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 9:39 am I've used OpenSCAD (https://openscad.org/) to modify this object for my needs (see https://forum.atari-home.de/index.php/t ... #msg257331). It's a nice small download at 21MB though, most other stuff I tried like FreeCAD was huge (>400MB) and way too complex for what I need. Also tried MeshLAB (only 36MB) but looks very complex too. I heard about Microsoft 3D Builder, sounds nice and simple but not available for Windows 7 it seems.
Thanks.

i.e.
Code: Select all
import("ATARI_mega_stett_disk_cover-new.stl");
Yes, I'm (also?) tired (or too old) to learn such complex new things I'll use max. three times a year. And there is OpenSCAD: Simple but powerful "language", where one can drill holes ("difference") and glue objects or other imports to existing or created objects. This is how "my" TT case was born.It's a nice small download at 21MB though, most other stuff I tried like FreeCAD was huge (>400MB) and way too complex for what I need.
