Oh poo, searching for the usual "new comers" forum for presentation, i read this rule.
Ok, this will be my second post.
I've bought my first st in 1987 (in spring ?). During my military service in paris, i learned c, 68k ... and share my leisure time in prestasoft local (which became later ocean).
Moving to the north of france, i spent time with crackers and demomakers from dma.
Now i owned several st : 520 stf, 1040 stf, 2048 ste with ultrasatan and cosmos extension (i didn't have time to use it)
My project is to retrieve on pc world and internet the demos, the sourcecode files we've done at the end of the eighties

Hi all, it seems a good idea to launch my first post in this section of the forum.
Why Atari ST? Going back to the roots of computer music sequencing. The real thing!
So I bought 2 ST's (1040 STF) to restore and use in the studio. Need to decide on C-lab or Steinberg, since I started more than 15 years ago with Rebirth & later Reason, upgrading to Logic and returning to basics with Ableton. The next step is joining the magical world of Atarians
Looking forward talking and learning Atari with all you Atarians.

New to the forum. Oldie, never forget my first Atari ST. I used to work on a stall in the Glasgow Barras back in the good old days, and have been reminiscing a lot about those days, working on different stalls etc. I was a kid back them. Good time.
Re: New visitor? Your first three posts need to be approved
New to this forum as well. Used to visit Little Green Desktop when it was active around 15 years ago. Seems to be dead now?
I have now got interested in the Atari scene again somehow. Anyway, had a Nintendo 8-bit in the good old days and sold that for an Atari 1040STfm around 1989-90 I think. Used to do a lot of graphics, fonts and such. Had a site a loooong time running, which featured many of those fonts. My first/old ISP (dial-up) got bought several times and the last provider who bought it closed the server like half a year ago or so. Trying to locate an old backup on a old PC somewhere in storage and kind of stumbled back in the old roots of Atari.
Have two 1040 Stfm. One is the original I bought all those years ago with TOS 1.02. The other one is an upgrade with a marpet X-tra Ram deluxe 4 Mb. I got an external 20 Mb HDD for that one connected to an ICD adSCSI card. I think I have a 520STm or something with external drive somewhere in a box also.
Just got an 520 Atari STe (got 4 Mb Ram and TOS shifter from exxos for it). Also got a Mega STe 4 Mb (swapped the German TOS in it for a Swedish one) and a Falcon (14Mb, 4Gb CF card) now. Got Gotek floppy drive, UltraSatan and NetUSBee also to play with.
Man, it feels good to play around with this again. Still need more hardware though....

Hi all. I have a 520ST that i have salved from trash due to a bad memory upgrade. The last owner gift me the ST and i fix by patching the ram directly to the datalines, etc.

I really don't know. If you are interested in the fonts someone grabbed it all before the site went down and rar'ed it. Look here.arf wrote:...

Yes, it's to prevent spammers joining the forum, making a post and then trying to PM existing members.azazel1125 wrote:Hi all

You're at 4 posts now, so that means you can now PM people.

Hi All,
My first post!
I'm a big Atari ST fan after buying mine around 1988, upgrading from my Spectrum after seeing my mate's ST playing Supersprint and Dungeon Master. A review of Carrier Command sealed the deal for me and I bought a 520 STFM from my granny's catalogue and paid for it in easy monthly instalments over the next 10 years (or so it felt!)
I've been using STEEM and HATORI for an ST fix every now and again, and love the Rasp Pi, but felt the need to dig my original out the loft and fire it up with all my original save games (especially Captive and Buggy Boy!).
It's working fine and I managed an hour or two before my old portable TV filled my front room with smoke on it's way to the CRT graveyard in the sky.
Anyway, waiting for a new DMA to SCART adaptor so I can crank it back up and run through all my old games and ST Format disk demos on my flat screen and looking forward to being part of the community.
I'm interested in mods and upgrades (providing they don't deface the chassis) and did have a 1MB upgrade which doesn't appear to be working anymore from the short time I was able to run it on the TV.

spiny, thanks a lot for your quick answer. I fully understand.
I think it's a good measure to avoid spam and not interested users. As I do not know the forum well, I do not know if it is necessary to introduce myself a little more, but in any case, very grateful for receiving me.

Hello Atari Forum. As this appears to be the intro thread, here goes:
- First gaming device was an Atari 2600 in the early 80's. We had Pacman, Defender, Haunted House and one or maybe two others which I cannot remember.
- Next was an Amstrad CPC464 with poxy green monitor in 1985. The advantage the CPC had over it's 8-bit rivals was a vastly superior colour palette - which I didn't get to enjoy, except for when I was on my mate's Amstrad. A couple of years later this same mate gave me his colour monitor when his parents bought him an ST.
- Pretty much the whole time I was an Amstrad owner I coveted the newly released ST and Amiga. It was a tough choice for me in 1988 when I upgraded. I had used my mate's ST and was blown away by Dungeon Master, Star Trek, IK+ etc, but in the end went with the Amiga 500. That was my best years of gaming - I was also using my mate's ST regularly, so got the best of both worlds.
- In 1995 I saw Doom on another mate's PC, and that was the end for the Amiga. Been a PC user ever since, but used emulators to play classic games on all platforms.
At the end of last year I discovered the MiSTer FPGA and decided I had to have one, mainly to have the ST/Amiga experience again. I'm also looking to try out the Atari 8-bit machines. For a non-IT guy like me, emulation is too fiddly and original hardware far too expensive and maintenance intensive.
Apologies if this post is overly long, I love reading about others' computer history and appreciate the time some users have taken to detail theirs.

I thought I had registered before, but never mind, I registered again. Let me say one thing first:
Atari-Forum is back!!! HALLELUIA!
My first home computer was a 520ST back in the late 1980's. Over the years, it was expanded, re-cased expanded some more. Along the way, I acquired some more Atari gear (1040ST, 520STFM, TT030). Then I happened upon a Milan for sale and jumped on it. I got it working with MiNT and added a 68060 card. I hadn't been using it much the last few years, so a few weeks ago I though it was time to give it some love. I bought it a couple of 128 MB SIMMs and brought it up to 384 MB. It thanked me by having its hard drive die. It's mostly restored now, but I tried upgrading from MiNT 1-15-12 to 1-16-1 at the same time and that threw me a few roadblocks. I'm sure I could have solved them more easily if the forum hadn't been down, but never mind, the forum IS BACK!!!
