I have been trying the Falcon STOS examples, they mostly work in steem, though when it comes to DSP stuff, like playing audio, It has to be done on Hatari. Though on there, it just plays audio for a second then crashes with bus error  I don't think I have ever got anything to run in Hatari for that matter. Stuff works a fraction better with TOS404 than EMUTOS, but still same result. So I doubt anyone would be doing anything STOS related unless they use a real Falcon.
Which version of Hatari you're using and can you point to a Falcon STOS program that doesn't work on Hatari?

Are you sure that stuff really works on real Falcon? I'm quite doubtful that something like that wouldn't work because of issues in Hatari 030 emulation... Have you e.g. tried running it from floppy image, or with different amounts of memory?

Its the DSP tracker example in the STOS falcon pack I put on my site. It works on a real falcon (but not tried it for some years). The old extension used the CPU to play tracker mods, later extension version used the DSP. I think it played about 3 seconds of the music then crashed. but im not sure if it sounds right, sounds like the speed is varying in the music as its playing.

I turned off all the options, and it sounded properly, it played for a few more seconds with "24 bit addressing" turn off, but still crashed.

Any chances for image files that will work with Hatari emulator? Would like to play around with it and I can't afford actual hw.

You don't need image files, just create a hard drive folder and copy the files into that. Though I would suggest you use steem emulator instead of Hatari.

Is it better? May try it then, thank you. It's just that Hatari was the first result I got when googling for Atari ST emulator.

Better for STOS yes. If you read up some posts I had issues with Hatari and STOS, with just about everything so gave up with it. Steem will work better with STOS and I don't have any issues with it.

One last thing, So I've launched STOS on Steem and trying to follow manual's tutorial (that animals.mbk thing).

So I've copied accessories disk to HDD folder (along with STOS as you suggested), typed in STOS shell load "animals.mbk", it loaded, shows in listbanks, but when I do next part and write sprite 1,100,100,1 nothing happens.

I'm using STOS 3.0 and TOS 1.02 (UK), but same thing happens with 2.06. Probably my own stupidity, but I want to make some atari st stuff.

You are probably in mode 1 which doesn't display sprites, type in MODE 0 and try again.

If you need anymore help please open up a new topic in the STOS section as this thread is for STOS news not a general help topic :)

I want to thank Exxos, Petari and anybody else who made this great site.

My dream has always been to program Gauntlet properly for the Amiga but I have recently seen, and after MANY hours of messing about finally played, the mono version of Gauntlet on Macintosh. I think the graphics are beautiful, does chug a bit on the Mac (more than Gauntlet in 16 colours on the ST with software samples!) but it's so nice I wanted to try and do a demo level of it in STOS.

The very long and annoying (you can not remap the keys for control and the choices are poo 8 way joystick position patterns on keyboard and pressing two keys does not get you diagonal either) of screen capping vMac emulator whilst failing badly at this game to get the graphics and anims ripped and work on it from there....one day...but now it's possible to try and write it for my 520STM and see what happens (I also have a couple of Mega STEs so there is 16mhz and a blitter to help alleviate the 'not coded in 68k machine code' factor).

Yes I am mad about Gauntlet, I absolutely love that game and if the controls were better I'd source a 512k old Mac to play it on real hardware....luckily for my bank balance the controls are not re-definable so no need to go beyond emulation.

But once again thank you, it is great preservation sites and updates to old software like this that make my [sure to fail] long gone teenage dreams of writing something nice in STOS for once still possible now in retirement haha

I have luckily acquired STOS and STOS Compiler. The disks are in mint/like new condition adn so are the boxes and manuals. If it's in any way helpful for archival purposes, I can take images, etc.

However I have a MEGA ST4 and MEGAFILE 60 which I've just got up and working. I'm thinking of doing some STOS dev and putting all the files onto the HDD. Any suggestions or best practices for anyone who has done so?

I have a boxed version the same compiler that's on Exxos' site: Version 2.7

I only worry that my programs will run on TOS versions up-to TOS 1.62.
To be honest I don't really think about TOS 2.06 or Falcon support, but maybe I should.

For years I have used the same version of STOS in STEEM that I used on my STFM and STE:
STOS 2.6 with STOS 2.7 Compiler.
Extensions:
Misty, Missing Link, STE, Blitter,
TOME (never used it), Squasher, Compactor, STOS Maestro.

Root directory set to a directory with my source code and the compiler in it so I can use:
load "compiler.acb"
run

The reason why I stick with STOS 2.6 is because it is the last official version. I don't want to use something which has been modified to run newer versions of TOS which might introduce incompatibility with older versions of TOS.
Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, 520STFM (x2), 2.5Mb STF, Atari 2600JR, Flashback 8 Gold.
Hardware: Cumana CSA 354, Ultimate Ripper, Blitz Turbo, Synchro Express II (US and UK Versions).
