Diagonal joystick input?

Post by JeanMarc »

I was trying to play Gauntlet, and had trouble configuring diagonal joystick inputs (I have an Xbox 360 controller plugged in a USB port).
I could set it to go up/down, and left/right but not diagonally.

...then I switched to Port 0 (mouse) and DirectInput, and it started working (at least I believe that was the configuration).

Today, I try it again, and diagonal input does not work anymore. Maybe because you need to set the inputs before launching the game?

I am asking about Gauntlet but have the same issue with other games like Bobble Bubble where it is very difficult to play with just up/down and left/right.

Please help!

I am using Steem SSE 3.7.2 / Windows 10 Pro, TOS 206

What does it do in the joystick configuration box when you test?

Port shouldn't be important.

I tried with this odd config, and of course it works (also using Win10 pro).
You didn't specify option C1, but it works with or without.
It also works with keyboard keys.

Status: can't reproduce
Hint: is it your controller? I use a digital "competition pro" speedlink (not a good joystick by the way).
In the CIA we learned that ST ruled

I tried an old sidewinder joystick and that one worked. Googled the problem for the Xbox360 controller and others had similar issues on PC games. Still could not find a solution. Then I went back into the emulator's joystick configuration and changed to a smaller "square" (hard to explain but I'm sure you'll get it). I figured out the square was apparently for sensitivity (at least that's my guess). Don't know why it worked for left/right and up/down but not diagonals but it works now! :)

Now, can you make force feedback work inside the emulator? ................ just kidding! :)
