FORTH for every Atari

I ran the French manual through Google Translate and it spat out an English version. (they can handle PDF/DOCX formats)

Clearly it will need proof reading plus re-arranging some literal translations etc but it may be a good place to start?

I emailed you this version too for comments.

I'm impressed, the translation is pretty good (as fas as I can judge with my english!).

So I can now re-read and correct some little things.

I saw that most errors come when Google tries to translate a Forth word! They already are in english, or truncated english.

Is the Index preserved? (I mean the logical link between the table of contents and the articles?)

When I convert back to a PDF, the Index links are preserved but seem to point to wrong pages, not sure if the index links just need updating in the ODT file?

I reuploaded the two files (ODT and PDF) after an update of the table of contents.

Hi,

thanks to viking272, I have a not-so-bad version of an english manual for the FORTH.
I have to read every page because the translator tried to translate things that it shouldn't. Example, the "or" logical instruction is seen as the word "or" in french that means gold...
Something else, the translator has added/removed spaces before some characters such as !, ? or . that are common into the Forth words.

The work is progressing, I have verified pages 1 to 40 out of 138. The english manual will soon be available.

Hey Guillame, we had a power shortage here in the UK and I had no online devices for a while, so I decided to dig out my book on FORTH, as you have inspired me to learn about the language.

I havent learnt enough to find its shortcomings yet, but it seems like a better fit for interfacing with assembly than C.

Once I learn more, I will certainly like to try it out for some projects; especially if you have developed some words for GEM AES menus/dialogs.

Yes, the english manual is arriving, viking272 is working on it.
I have reread the auto translation and checked for the technical part.
Now viking272 is verifying the english syntax.

I have updated the french manual with a tutorial. Editing, running, saving, compiling. Everything is introduced.

The example program is a simple way to draw the Sierpinski's triangle:
